Post Processing Challenge #155

Welcome to Challenge 155!

Thank you LarsW for hosting the last challenge and everyone who participated. Sorry for the delay in getting this next challenge started, but here it is. I hope you find it worthy of your efforts and skills. It is the former Phoenix (AZ) City Hall. It is preserved as a museum. It has some beautiful architecture. The image was taken with a K3 and a DA* 16-50mm F2.8 lens. I look forward to seeing what everyone can do with it. I will close this challenge Monday morning August 10. Good luck everyone....let the Challenge begin!

Third one is a crop whit Arizona type rocks instead of the yellow ones. Also did some pushing of the door and the green tints.

I took the original DNG file created 2 new bracketed raw files at +1.5 & - 1.5 exposure adjustment with Photoshop Raw File editor. I then blended the 3 files with Photomatrix to create a HDR file using the Painterly Effect preset in the software

The dng would not open in CS2 so I used Pentax Utility 5. Saved as a tif and then created an hdr in Luminance which I worked on in CS2 for the 1st image.
The second image has no hdr.
How about a Black & White.
I think the last one is probably close to what it really looks like.
One more time.

Intriguing pic -- I played with tone curve, dodged a lot, clarified and fixed perspective.

The building is now a museum. When it functioned as City Hall it included the police department headquarters and the city jail. The portion which was police headquarters now hosts the Phoenix Police Museum. Those windows are part of the Police Museum and display photographs of the history of the Phoenix Police Department.

A common assumption, particularly for those not familiar with the origins for the name for Phoenix Arizona, which is from the mythological Phoenix Bird. Those are not supposed to depict eagles, instead they are supposed to be Phoenix Birds rising from the flames underneath. Just FYI - let the challenge continue. Many great entries already. Keep them coming.

Challenge 155 Closed - Results

Challenge 155 is now closed! This challenge had fewer contributions than some of the previous ones. I apologize if this image wasn't interesting enough.

All of the entries were very good and worthy of being selected (except maybe Arizona Dave's psychedelic edition ). It was really a matter of splitting hairs for selecting an image for the next host. A couple of things I liked were those who corrected the vertical distortion and those who brought out the detail and lantern light underneath the entrance arch.

I was going to say something about each, but I really liked them all, it is just a matter of personal, subjective opinion (in this case me), so I am just going to select the three I liked the most. Great job everyone!

Third place goes to Rimfiredude. You had several entries. This one secures third place for you:

Second place goes to PiotrKrochmal:

First place and the honor of hosting the next challenge goes to Arizona Dave! You had several entries. On this one I like the tighter crop around the entrance, the desaturation of the main building and vignette to draw attention to the entrance and removing the signs. Excellent! - it secures the win for you. I look forward to what you have for us in the next round.
