Two images from a recent walk. The stream in the first image, as disclosed by exposed roots on the near bank, sometimes has much greater discharge. A couple winter back a heavy rain atop a snow pack brought this river well over both banks.

This is odd. If you look closely at the tree in the left foreground you'll see Christmas ornaments. It's about a mile in on this trail, and just as far from any building or paved road in any other direction, but in December, it sprouts ornaments.

In the days before paved roads, internal combustion, flashlights, etc., it's easy to understand why people believed that evil things might dwell in such a forest. It seems a place where humans do not belong and are not welcome.

To people who live out where I live, it's cities that seem like places humans do not belong. It's all matter of perspective.

But isn't it great that places such as this still exist in our modern world, I shot this image just yesterday.

Truth be known, to understate the case, I HATE CITIES! But I enjoy their museums and zoos. really enjoy a stroll in the woods, along a path, trail, abandoned road or long unused logging road. However, that particular forest, as pictured, looks a very awkward place to walk comfortably, and as the poster noted, it also looks more haunted and sinister than enchanted.

It looks like a very good place for shamans.
