We are getting our Indian summer. The windows are open. The door is propped open so the dogs can go in and out when they want to. I'm posting pictures of the morning dog walk . On our walk we have paths through the woods with a stream crossing, a gravel pit that's great place to take bird n flight photos , especially now with the hawks and eagles coming through. Then a 250 foot climb to the top of the ridge. Today I got turned around and used the "keep your right shoulder pointed at the sun" method to get home. When I'm not sure where the path is, I usually follow Jesse, today that wasn't the best strategy. But I like the route we took, I'll have to see if I can make it a permanent path.
This isn't everything, but it's my best effort to date, to illustrate "the walk" instead of just interesting images taken on the walk.
5 km of forest paths, a stream, a pond, and optional lake (Longairy) wetlands, a ridge with a lookout, lot's of everything. It's no wonder I rarely leave home, it's all right here.
One of the few mushrooms still visible. Most have melted away.
Coming out of the woods to the old school road.(it was a road back in the 30s.)
On the old school road.
Fluorescent green moss on a rock, on Abby Road.
Another survivor. It was -12ºC a couple nights ago, I have no idea how it survived.
More fungi. These guys will be around for awhile. They aren't as seasonal as many are.
The gravel pit....also bit of scrap metal storage.
The tower road, coming from the gravel pit.
The Tower road cuts a wetland in half, facing west.
There's still some snow in the shaded areas.
Starting up the ridge. I slow down here a bit. The dogs get used to waiting for me.
Most of the way up, Tripper lies down to wait. He may as well rest when he has the chance, and he likes the cool moss.
Misty's favourite lookout rock. Up on the ridge.
Something interesting always catches your eye.\
