Autumn leaves floating on a pond.

And where they came from.

Fallen Tree, South Wales

The moss in this forest seems almost fluorescent when the light is dull

From yesterday's dog walk.

Why does no one want to fight over this stick?

A massive white pine.

From the early dog walk. It was -35ºC when we got up, way too cold to walk the dogs.
It was -18ºC when I went out, and after lunch.

Waiting at the cross roads. The three trails heading out from here go home, up to the old school road, or a 4km walk that goes by 6 old growth white pines.

I get pictures here because they don't know which way to go and wait for me here. Usually they are out scattered at different places in the bush. Chase is taking the opportunity to clean the snow from between his toes. It's a problem when it's this cold.

Tia and Chase
Chase gets ready to go which ever way I point the camera. I was going for solo shot of Tia, but he raced over.

You have some curly bark there, my favourite.

Nut storage in fallen tree trunk

It is interesting how a squirrel has stored a black walnut for future access.

The afternoon dog walk....
K-3 and DA 16-85

Rick, my 38 year old step-son, has taken the week off to play computer games... he's an IT guy so I guess it's kind of normal, for a 38 year old. In any case, his two wonderful Golden Retrievers are staying with us until Friday. Kreia and Kora.

Kreia

Tia

Kora on the Puppy Path.

A couple of Jesse, same spot, different focal lengths (try this without a zoom.)

I too love trees that have aged enough to have character. Sadly, several that I particularly liked have gone past their time and have dropped massive limbs, or have fallen, or have been cut down for safety sake. Time is cruel.and indifferent to beauty.

Vaila Brae, our first Sheltie and technically our daughter's pet, had somewhat splayed toes and often had a problem with little snow or ice balls developing between the pads of her toes. When she'd stop to try to remove them, I'd sometimes help by squeezing and crushing them. When doing that, as I would have to take off my gloves, I could almost feel how uncomfortable it would be to have such hard, freezing cold globs between my own toes. Our other Shelties have had dainty feet with toes snugged close against each other, and consequently have had less trouble with snow balls between their toes.
