M out ahead of me on one of our regular walks recently, The shadows here are interesting. This private dirt road leads to a sportsmans' club about 3/4 miles along. They plow it quickly after a snowfall so it's a good place to walk when other trails are awkward.

A dead leaf under the ice

Wider and closer views of a spot where a little spring-fed flow goes over a small tree that fell a long time ago. The ice has formed a semi-cylinder-like covering over much of the tiny waterfall, almost like a fender.

This will eventually grow into a fleshy orange shelf fungus, but very early in the growing season it looks quite different.

An old shelf fungus that has almost made a full circle. I have a slight preference for the low-level image.

After all the rain, I expected some fungi to be about-these at Kloofendal Nature Reserve

I finally got out for a bit for the last few days, nagging injuries made me pretty much immobile for a week or two, but I'm back.

If you aren't the lead dog, you see a lot of butts.

Not the prettiest fungus, but this time of year you take what comes easy. More than three feet off the path is too much effort.

Tripper at Beech Tree Corners ("Which way are we going boss?")

"Lichen-Fungi-Moss-dead-leaves". It's not often these days I cover them all.
