Your dignity, perhaps? At my age, a fall is the greatest threat to my health and all that I enjoy doing. Having symmetrical hip replacements increases the risk, both of a fall and negative consequences. We always wear microspikes if there's any chance of ice, I often take a walking stick as well, and we avoid certain patches of ice even when wearing the spikes. I have gone down a few times because of ice, mostly stuff that couldn't be seen because of a fresh snow cover. One "memorable" time was out in an open field, used for football/soccer/softball. Fresh dry powdery snow atop a huge refrozen puddle that was smooth as glass. Almost impossible to get standing again, in fact, I had to crawl for a while. It was like being on a basketball court that was covered with marbles.
