We are finally getting some spring kind of action here....

The woodpeckers seem to really like this tree

The sugar maples are flowering.

I have no idea what this is.... growing out of an old fir tree stump.

A little pixel shift for you.

I'm sure the moss that grows in this characteristic hemispherical shape has a more specific name than "moss," but alas I am ignorant of it. The mayflowers are not yet in bloom, but their leaves make a lovely carpet in some woodlands where we walk.

Found this patch of lichen close by so it was more of a stroll than a walk.

Lady slippers went from emerging buds on Thursday last week to fully open, but not with full color by Tuesday this week. Gaywings (Polygala) have also opened. Some delightful large patches of them along one of the trails where we walk.

Poor soggy little thing. Looks like a three-towel dog.

Don't let her appearance fool you - she loves every minute of these rainy walks (Yes, a minimum 3-towel dog!)

It's not much of a forest/lichen walk but this is my favorite thread so, sorry...not orry. Taken on the Audobon Birdtrail on Dauphin Island, Alabama. Taken with K70 and my newly acquired Kiron 105/2.8 macro.

I accidentally posted these two images on the wrong thread by clicking on the thread listed adjacent to this one. I wanted to show what a difference about a week could make in the condition of the lady slippers which are now blooming profusely along one trail in particular we sometimes use for our AM walk.
