I'm homesick for my walks along the trails, lakes and streams back in DFW...waahh None of that near my area here in SoCal. Luckily I have heaps of photos from those days, many of them still needing editing. From Oct. 2017:

Gaywings from earlier this Spring. Wish these pretty little flowers would linger.

This tree's got his own little fern-garden at his feet.

Dainthus ("pinks") now blooming in some sandy spots; a mushroom growing upon an old fallen log, and a stone that gave up rolling long ago.

sorry folks...

...this is not a forest walk, nor does it show lichens, fungi, or moss. I'm not sure where these pics should lay, but this is my favorite thread so I hope you don't mind. Pics where taken on a hike (during a drive-through) in a precious valley in southeastern Utah. This place was pristine and strangely spiritual. There were no people around (I think we saw 2 cars on a 17 mile drive through the valley). The isolation was immense. Simply a special place.

Great looking photos Knock. This is one of my fav threads as well, but we'd love to see your pics over in the Scenics & 'scapes thread too!

A long deceased tree supplying substrate for algae & moss, and an upright tree supplying the same for some small fungi.

Fern-filled forest floor. The mixed hardwood eastern woodlands encourage you to stay on well-worn trails. Large stands of pine and especially hemlock, on the other hand, generally have fairly open floors, even bare ground below the canopy.
