Iceland, beautiful country, but so much is treeless and foreboding. BTW: it was well forested when the Vikings arrived, but they needed wood for many purposes. A massive tree-planting effort has been under way for many years, but in this climate it takes time..

Interesting! I read a bit more about it and learnt that - until the settlers arrived - actually about 25-40% of Iceland was forested, to be decreased till 0,5-1% in the mid of the 20th century. Fortunately, the number is on the rise again now.

Glad you enjoyed. You could see here and there where there was a purposely planted stand of trees (one species of tree, all of almost exactly the same size). We also visited a large reforestation area that was quite remote. There was a greater diversity of trees there, a more satisfying forest. They have planted, as I recall, well over a million trees, but that only scratches the surface of replenishing what's been lost.

I think this classifies as a scenic. Taken a few days ago during our morning walk, stunning day after a light snowfall.
