Coincidentally, that caption will serve me! We really enjoyed the Azores although we got caught a couple extra days on Santa Cruz de Flores by high winds that kept the aircraft grounded.
BTW: Did you hike out on the military peninsula? Interesting place. Way out there are ancient stone-fortified outposts where ship spotters were once on watch.

We visited 4 islands - Sao Miguel, Terceria, Faial, and Pico in 12 days. We didn't have much time for hiking as we typically did one day tours around the islands. We did go to Monte Brazil (the military peninsula) one time and yes, it's a very interesting place as is Angra. This was our first trip, it won't be our last. Really have to spend some time on all of the 9 islands. Faial was my favorite by the way. But I want to visit Flores and Corvo in the western Island group. Check out this Instagram site for really great Azoren photography. #azoreswhatelse

The first image is from Flores. The red-roofed building is a cozy-looking home that runs a farm, you can just make out a cow near the house. The second image is M sitting by the outpost far out on the peninsula. We hauled a picnic lunch there as the hike filled an entire day. Hard to date the stonework but I think it goes back to the earliest years of human occupation. During WWII they were prepared for invasion, but I don't know if any military were posted here, to man a machine gun nest for example.

Another view of Teceria, Azores from the Miradoro. You can see Paria do Vitoria in the distance with the Lajes airfield off to the left.

One Tree Hill, just outside of Hall, a village in the Australian Capital Territory, which is more or less a part of greater Canberra. I'm guessing that the "One Tree" is at left, though there are plenty of trees behind the viewpoint. From here four of the five "Town Centres" comprising Canberra can be seen. Encroaching suburbs of Gungahlin (one of the centres) can be seen behind the tree - they are at the base of the hill now. When I first moved here, there where still paddocks across the majority of that space.

Not a great day to take photos from up there due to the haze. Maybe it was the eucalyptus forests further south and west causing that on one of our warmer spring days after a wetter than average winter.
