Iceland. FYI: When the "Vikings" discovered and settled this island, there were extensive forests which they cut down without a thought to fill their needs for construction and especially firewood. That has left the country looking bleak, at least for those of us accustomed to woodlands. A program of reforestation is underway, but so far, only a small area has substantial trees growing. It takes a long time, a lot of hand labor, and quite a bit of $$ to plant a million trees.

Local scenery. A field around which a path is regularly mowed for hikers like ourselves, and especially in early Autumn for hunters. The grass and weeds across the entire field are also mowed to prevent growth of trees & bushes. Our first walk of '19, on New Year's Day
