Old lookout point on Poet's Walk, Clevedon, Somerset
This clifftop path was a favourite walk of Tennyson and his college friend Arthur Hallam. Hallam is buried in a churchyard a hundred yards behind this shot, having died at the age of 22 while engaged to Tennyson's sister. Tennyson's publishing of his epic poem "
In Memoriam A.H.H." established the death as a Victorian tragedy of the highest order.

Clevedon Bay
The pier, built 1869, is thought to be the oldest pleasure pier in the UK still in existence. It is a Grade 1 listed building; no amusement arcades, just an elegant stroll out to a gazebo at the end. Beyond is the Bristol Channel and the coast of South Wales.
