Back in 2005, I had a number of business trips to Honolulu to work on a R&D program to reduce the drag on ships, to improve fuel consumption and reduce ship-generated pollution. We were based in a shipyard in Honolulu and we had a period of rain every afternoon. As you surmise, rainbows were imported on a daily basis. The various shipyards seemed to take turns importing them and appeared to compete for the best rainbow implementation. Some of the rainbows , like this one, seemed to originate so close to us that we could reach out and touch them. Unfortunately, the rainbows were imported on the cheap and, while they looked beautiful, we never found the pot of gold reputed to be at the end of each one!
