Back in 2016, when there were fires everywhere, this "cloud-bank" is actually smoke streaming off a forest fire somewhere towards the Grand Canyon.

Walked out of my house last night at about 7:55PM and saw a sky with some interesting cloud patterns after a day of heavy rain and I took a few shots, as seen in the first picture below. Walked out again about 45 minutes later and the sky had morphed into what you can see in the second and third shots, below. Unfortunately, I didn't track what was happening continuously, so I didn't get what would probably have been some interesting transition shots between them.

I've been trying to better identify cloud formations using the WMO International Cloud Atlas. Now I'm so confused I can't tell one from another so please correct me if I'm wrong.
