To my eye, the perfect bike - 1967 BSA Spitfire. I took the photograph at the British Motorcycle Day in Olney, MD, May 21st, 1989. The full set of 22 slides is here:

I had one of those once. My dad bought it, and called it "my bike" so many times that it became mine. I worked on it, got it running, rode it around the neighborhood (I was too young for a license).

Also had a '56 Chevy 2 door hardtop. Same deal as the bike.

I got in some trouble at school, and he sold them both.

A few of the same pickup from today:

(And yes it still runs according to the owner!)

Clean it up, clear coat it to preserve the "patina", and sell it for 15 or 20 grand.

My 1978 Honda Hawk, in the spring of 1982.

Bought brand new, just after college.

Shot on Kodachrome, with a Ricoh XR2S, with a Pentax M40-80mm zoom lens.

Copied with a Pentax K5IIs, and A50mm f1.7 lens with a Pentax Auto Bellows M and Slide Copier For Auto Bellows M.

I remember those - 400cc twin? Nice bikes. About the time that photo was taken (early '82), I'd just bought an '81 Suzuki GS650G (shaft drive version). It was a new, year old model at the time, and they were offering super deals. Those were the days...

Yep, 400 twin. Honda marketed that bike with an automatic, the Hondamatic. I was, and still am, averse to automatic transmissions (come on, it isn't that difficult to learn and master a clutch on a bike!), so I bought the manual transmission model. Having just got out of college, and having little, if any money, I managed a co-signer for a loan. I looked at the four mid sized bikes available at the time, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Honda, all 400cc's. I was leaning towards the Kawasaki, but they had issues with the engine design, and an inherent oil leak. I didn't care for the Yamaha, or the Suzuki, so I went with the Hawk.

I rode this bike every day for the first year I had it, until I had saved enough from my first job out of school to buy a used car, a 65 Chevelle.

Nice shot. I still have my M40-80, which I bought new in 1981, to use with my K2DMD. I’ve recently tried it on the K-1 and it turns out to be better than I remembered.

The majority of exposures I made with film were with that lens. Its versatility and handling spoiled me.

And with your comment I think it is time to mate mine up to my K-1.
