The Chateau Frontenac is a spectacular building! I'd love to visit Quebec again.

this capture very much. Such great work with a lens at that price point.
Thanks for the comments. I've been very fortunate in the FA 80-320, as it turns out to be a better lens than it is credited for. A lot of people buy the lens for the reach, and end up shooting it wide open at the long end. Unfortunately, the lens isn't very sharp at the long end, but in the 80 to 135 range, it's stellar --- and it's still pretty good out to 200mm (at least good enough to give the DFA 70-210 a run for its considerable money, especially in landscape photography where you have to stop down). The lens also has pretty good flare control and renders beautifully for a zoom. Here's another one from the same lens:

Here are a few of my favourites, all taken with my trusty Sigma 105 f2.8 macro. I seem to use it more for landscapes than I do for macro shots, but I love the way it shows the colours in a nice sunset or sunrise. The first photo with the mountains getting progressively further away was taken last night at sunset. We've got a bunch of forest fires around here now, and as much as the smoke sucks, it makes for some interesting photographs.

The shot with the moon is a bit of a lie, I used my old SMC A 400mm for the moon to get some detail, then shrunk it down to a more reasonable size and put it in the other photo, which was taken with my Sigma 105.

The mist in the trees was taken at sunrise, and is a two shot panorama using the Sigma 105. It didn't work out quite as nicely as I had hoped, I didn't have time to properly level my tripod, and my source photos weren't level. I ended up having to crop it so I lost the tree line starting at the bottom left. I probably would have been better off to use a 50 mm lens instead, still a short telephoto on an APSC sensor though.

And the last shot is a winter sunrise taken way back when with my first DSLR, my trusty K10D and Sigma 105. Shot handheld and in jpeg only because I didn't know any better (and couldn't afford huge memory cards), and very slightly darkened the foreground to remove some distractions in the plowed snow. The colours in the sky weren't touched at all. I was at work when I took it, and was on hold with tech support for a piece of equipment I was working on, but couldn't ignore that sunrise. I'm glad I didn't, as it placed high enough in an online photo contest last year to be in a gallery exhibit in Europe.

Last is another one from the K10D days, also with the Sigma 105, and another panorama sunrise. Taken on January 1, at 9:30 am.

Here's a shot I took recently with my old SMC A 70-210 f4, probably at around 150 mm.

And here's one I like taken with an old 500 mm Tamron mirror lens. I've been pleasantly surprised with the results I've gotten with it, and I only paid $75 for it. It's nice and compact, so I actually end up using it a lot more than my much bigger 400mm 5.6. The photos taken with it definitely need a fair amount of contrast boost, buts that's pretty easy.

Trying to show the layers of trees in the early morning mist.

With the 150-450 at 150mm - the range is super versatile for a walk around to get some landscape snaps as well as wildlife

Sorry, but I've discovered this thread only recently and enjoy it tremendously. Here's a landscape at 135mm. Expect more to come.
