I only have a few wingspan pictures so far

July 2016 Treasure Island, FL, a pelican gliding over the beach.

July 2016 in my backyard, a female ruby-throated hummingbird. She was the boss of the feeder this summer.

Red-tailed hawk, being pursued by a red-winged blackbird. Hawk was carrying his lunch.

Trumpeter Swans, massive waterfowl with wingspans that can be over 10 feet. I got close to a pair this Spring in my car, and they were standing probably over five foot tall.

Got me digging into the old pictures...

Anhinga. Almost identical to a Cormorant, but the Cormorant has a turned down crook at the tip of the bill. Anhinga has a straight bill.

Ruby Throated Hummingbirds around my feeder in 2013, end of summer during migration. I had about 8 or 9 crowding around 2 feeders.

Snowy Egret

Can we use a butterfly here? I don't think it was specified. Will remove if requested.

White Pelicans on a foggy day, I'm pretty sure the previous pelicans shown were Brown Pelicans. I'm sure the shot posted by Riggomatic was a Brown Pelican. I never see those here, only on the coast. White Pelicans migrate here every winter.

Woodduck drake.

OK enough for now, I should have plenty for this thread, I concentrate mostly on birds.

Re: posting the butterfly

Someone posted a bumble bee😉

And a butterfly is "found in nature"

😊

So my vote is yes

(If that matters) 😆

I see no harm in the occasional insect

Does anyone else?

I, for one, am really enjoying this thread. It seems to be generating a lot of looks

Let's keep it up

With the changes to Picasa, I'm not sure if this image of a wedge tailed eagle will appear or not. I'm not in a position to upload from my PC at the moment.

I have a question. When you first opened this thread and stated what you wanted, my assumption was on birds found standing on dry land with wings spread. Most of these in here show birds in flight and we already have a thematic for BIF.

Plus there is two for insects and one for Moth&Butterflies.

So my question is, did you want birds in flight or just birds with wings stretched out and standing still?

I understand the confusion

My initial thought was, as you stated, birds with wings stretched out, on the ground or in trees etc (I was not aware of the "BIF" thread at the time)

I added the bumble bee photo as a kind of a joke and mentioned I was willing to drop it if there were objections - I am not aware of any

I also posted birds in flight photos

So when the butterfly showed up I didn't think I could object

on the one hand the initial thought of wings outstretched does seem limited tho, I know that I have more photos of birds flying than stretching

But the ones with with wings outstretched seem so --- majestic

But with the BIF thread ongoing, posting birds flying here is a duplication isn't it

I, for one, don't intend on posting any more non bird pictures (unless I can get a good bat picture that is)

Why do I get to decide? Do I get to decide?

If I really had to choose - wings outstretched in trees, on ground, landing ready to take off etc

Please regular posters chime in

Yes, you have to decide because you started this thread.

That's what I think too. They look majestic standing with their wings spread out as such.

But this is all up to you about what you want in this thread.

Ok (hoping I am doing right thing)

Birds stretching wings on ground, in trees , and/or ready to take off or land

Sound doable? ??

This is being decided b/c the BIF thread covers the rest of the birds and there are also existing threads on insects, moths and butterflies
