the thread has evolved -

despite the mention of "birds", we are not limiting this to only the wing spans of birds, other appropriate photos of natural wing spans of animals or insects would be welcomed.

I am posting the description of the photos we are looking to include in the thread just to remind folks and new visitors of its intent. The intent is not to compete with the BIF thread.

cross posting of photos is welcomed. There are a lot of threads in the forums where you can choose to post your photos and we want this to be one of them.

Poor image........poor wingspan!
Well it is (they are) a Duck(s). Why the Duck showing off his wingspan is a bit lacking is one for the experts, I can only conjecture that it is either and escaped domestic Duck or a Mutant! Or maybe a juvenile that thinks it's fashionable to be so little endowed.
Is it a Mallard? https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Mallard/id added as per the suggestion from the original poster.
Taken at Riverside Park, Southampton, England and yes we do have Ducks with wings bigger than that though I doubt we can compete with the Ducks over the water.

Yes, but you need to read which wingspan the OP is asking anyone to post.

Same with any "Thematic" thread. Every one has different rules.

We mention in the thread that it's the wrong type of photo. A moderator can delete the photo if the OP (you) request it. But otherwise, it's up to the Original Poster what happens to other members photos who post out of turn.

Btw, I like this theme. I have several more photos of the theme but will have to hunt them down.

personally I was taught not to make mistakes, but to have "learning experiences" and not be dumb enough to repeat the "learning experiences"

I am a slow learner.

so I won't ask to have it removed, unless the poster wants to have it done.

New members make mistakes but I haven't seen where you have made that many. One has to learn and being able to learn and being human, we do make mistakes......even when we're old hats on this forum or any other online place to hang our hats.

Any photo I post in here links back to my flickr account and if clicked on, will give you the species name. The above goose is a "Swan Goose" and was taken at a local river park.
