my first double of 2017

truth be know, I saw the insect on the side of the flower and didn't see the other guy until I looked at the photo on the computer

the second and third photos were my attempts at hand held macro photograph. # 2 is cropped, # 3 isn't

I think that's a katydid nymph, maybe a grasshopper. They can sometimes be difficult to spot. They're good at hiding. The one on the petal looks like perhaps a Lasioglossum or similar small bee, but plenty of small wasps can have that general shape too. I've got loads of pictures where I never saw some tiny insect until viewing the image at high resolution, it's often a pleasant surprise.

My smallest pollinator to date, maybe my smallest insect...on a Forget Me Not.

I'm glad my sister was unable to find the time to mow before we arrived, as I found these little
FMNs in the lawn. I later mowed around them for her.

While taking pictures in LV, I saw these tiny creatures zipping around the flowers. I did not expect
to capture any detail of them as I used a slow shutter speed.

It is always fun to see unexpected detail when shooting macro, especially when it is a something
I cannot see with the naked eye. It's not clear in the last photo, but they do have wings.

If it has not been done, a research paper could probably be written about the relationship of this
insect to the FMN.

Last two pictures actual pixel crops, no higher resolution available.

The Forget Me Not flowers - maybe a half centimeter across.

Forget Me Not

Crawling inside.

Crawling Inside

Better detail of insect.

Tiny insect, better view.

Ok, I am really interested if it is cropped, and if it is only Tamron, with no additions? Stunning quality...

This is uncropped - the Tamron 90 is an excellent macro lens and coupled with the K3 you can get away with not filling the frame. It's difficult to get very close with these as they don't stay still for long and are not very big anyway, having 1/000 sec at f10 helps in getting detail

Thanks, I have Tamron 90 as well, but never had a very good luck with focusing, it is doing it soooo slooow. This is why I wondered (I had some semi-good pics, but this is still very impressive quality) if it is crop.
