Xylocopa virginica, the big Carpenter Bee. Related to Bumble bees, but not Bumble bees.
That makes sense. There is a nest hole bored in the side of my dad's barn from them. The bigger ones kept flying a pattern around the flowers while the smaller ones were collecting.

Thanks!

The males will patrol areas both defending and looking for love. Occasionally you'll see sentries defending a nest. I don't think males do that, but I could be wrong. Usually males of any species disperse for genetic mixing. They can really beat up old wood, the old solution is to keep old lumber around for sacrificial nesting, to keep the good wood safe.

OK, bought new computer (the old one could not eat the PS panorama mode for astro), and found some older images when moving data from various online storages... Not even sure, if it was Sigma 70-300, or Sigma 50-500.

I like the subtle curves and the shadows found in the image of the bee and blossom
'
and how the horizontal " V " of the green leaves on the left is kinda doing a "model's presentation " of the bee and blossom
