This bumble bee laid on its side and spun around in circles gathering pollen from this California poppy. Had never seen that before.
They do that in the native roses too, it's hilarious.

It was actually spinning around the stamen pretty fast. Reminded me of those old motorcycle daredevils zipping around the "Wall of Death."

I think this is the invasive parsnip, unless you're growing parsnips in your garden. The insects love the stuff but I spent two years getting rid of it in the yard...
And be careful, it's a photosensitizer, not as bad as some other members of its family but it can be rough.
all that said, when I had it in the yard I got a lot of great wasp and bee pictures.

Ha! I always forget dill has yellow flowers. I'm not sure we'll get any volunteers in our garden this year, it might be time to actually plant some seeds again next year.
Everything in those parsley and parsnip families are good attractors.

Do you make pickles?

we have used it for pickling - it's a perennial, so it comes back year after year in the herb bed, along with the lemon balm that's there...

That is a beautiful picture, both color- and depth-wise. The tiny flowers really stand out at this scale.

We use dill mainly for fish - in a soup (great), sauces (good) or even sometimes along with smoked salmon or trout (mehh ...). Used in a variety of dishes in northern Germany.
