I hope everyone recognizes that this is a dam site better picture than I posted in this thread the last time!

Dam on the Spoon River, at Bernadotte, Illinois. DA 18-135 WR + K10D, 24mm, f/8.

We got a dusting of snow last night, so I went up the mountain behind my house to see if I could get a decent panorama. The light was terrible, low clouds over everything with just a flat, grey sky. But I thought some of the gnarled up trees looked, and I took a couple pictures.
I think this is my favourite of the bunch.

I like these ones too.

I really wanted to make this one work, but the curved tree just blends with the background. Maybe with more snow it would stand out better. I'll have to check another time.

Polpeor Cove at The Lizard, Cornwall - the old, now disused, lifeboat house is at the foot of the picture. The new lifeboat house is at Kilcobben Cove, a little to the East of Lizard Point.

Very nice. There's just something special about a fresh blanket of snow.

Thanks. Snow is not fresh. Snow and frost just keep on hanging in the trees here as long as weather stays cold. 4 months in a good winter. That is also the reason why local spruce has short branches in top part of the tree.

Where I'm at in Canada we usually have snow for several months too, but this past year has been weird weather. Cold and wet summer, record snowfall in October, and very nearly a green Christmas. Supposed to be an even colder summer coming up if the Farmer's Almanac is right.

As this thread keeps showing, there's definitely a place in landscape photography for vertical compositions - sometimes they're the only ones that make sense - again as the thread demonstrates so often - here's another such case in point
