Favorite Images From 2016

We are coming to the close of another year and one of the fun things to do is look back at a variety of images and try to pick the five or ten best. I chose ten here, just because I have a hard time choosing, but I look forward to seeing what different folks come up with. These sort of threads always inspire -- just so much variety, whether it is landscape, street photography, portraiture, or wildlife -- seeing glimpses of different parts of the world, some that I will never visit, are what make photography such an interesting hobby.

In no particular order, these are my favorites...

Horse Before Dawn (with FA 31 limited and K-01)

Barn Sunrise (with DA 15 and K3)

Country Lane (DFA 24-70 and K-1)

Shark Attack (DA *16-50 and K5 II)

Hindostan Before Dawn (K-1 and DFA 24-70)

After Sunset (K-1 and DFA 24-70)

Country Road (K-1 and FA 31 limited)

Roaring Fork (K-1 and DFA 24-70)

Sunrise (with K-1 and DFA 15-30)

Rocks at Patoka Lake (K-1 and DFA 15-30)

Obviously most of my images are landscape photos. I do have a lot of images of my kids too, but I will spare you all those.

Please feel free to post, whatever genre of image you enjoy and whether you have 2 images or 10. I am looking forward to folks sharing a little retrospective look at the previous year.

I was going to create just such a thread, but you beat me to it by about 30 minutes. I'm also going for a top 10, as choosing is difficult. If you like the shots below, you can even visit Flickr, where I put up an album with my twenty favorites of 2016. Reducing it down to 10 was not easy!

Anyway, here they are, in roughly ascending order of preference:

Mine are mostly landscapes too as far as personal favorites go. They all seem so long ago, since the leaves are gone they landscape is an ugly brown unless covered with snow, and we haven't had much yet. Choosing can be difficult, but here's what I have.

K-30 and DA* 300.

K-50 and DA 18-135

A couple landscapes, which are a new endeavor for me. As well as a collection of critters; bears, pikas, Hoary Marmot, Kestrels, Mountain Bluebird.

---------- Post added 12-27-16 at 09:41 AM ----------

I know what it took for me to get that bear shot, the pika. The sunrise was planned in advance, a long hike up a mountain. I'm pleased with the results, mostly because of what it took to take it.

When I see other shots here, Rondec's landscapes which have inspired me to try that genre, the insects, seeing things through the eyes of the photographer, I imagine the effort, the time, the skill, because I know how hard I have to work to get mine.

I want to say that I appreciate the gifts that are presented here to me. Thank you.

Some awesome images so far. This photo year was a down year for me as much of it was spent on other things (car, computer, house, job).

Chino airshow. I've been to the Jelly Belly factory.

Bug Fest at the natural history museum. You can buy (and eat) various dead or alive things.

Under the dichroic skylight at the California ScienCenter (that's how they spell it).

Sand castle championship, "My Inner Self".

Long Beach windows on the way to a Mustang car show.

Los Angeles arboretum "birds in the garden".

Orange County auto show. OC has replaced Detroit as the headquarters of the US automobile world.

Spider pavilion at the natural history museum.

Petersen automobile museum. Remodeled inside and out.

Field of valor. These are found all over the country around Veterans Day. This was in Orange, CA.

Very nice landscapes. The first one stands out to me -- the deer just adds something special to the image.

Beautiful images. I really like the first one. You can really taste the flavors of Asia in many of the others.

Beautiful shots. Your skills in capturing wildlife are impressive, in particular, but the others shine as well.

WOW !! Such a wonderful collection of images from you all. These are my humble offerings. I have been trying very hard to take different types of photographs this year. I still can't take portraits !!!

Wow - some really amazing images so far. Kudos to "all y'all". Though my keeper rate is low, here are a few I was happy with.
