The modern road cut is about 15 feet lower than it must have been when this old red-brick one-room school was built and in use. So to frame this side of it with a 75mm lens you have to LOOK UP!

You have as many as anyone else Dan, they just get washed out by the moon light and light pollution from your nearest big city.

Try again on a moonless night, and aim your camera away from the city.

I remember hearing or reading a report several years ago, when Los Angeles (I think it was) had some power outages and many city people could suddenly see an actual starlit sky, including some of the Milky Way, for the first time in their lives. The 9-1-1 emergency system actually got telephone calls from people who thought they were seeing alien space crafts or witnessing an space alien invasion.

We were in Death Valley a few years back.

Such a magnificent sky, full of color and sparkling stars.

Took my breath away.

Well, it was a feeble attempt at humor. But, all seriousness aside, it's not possible to aim away from city lights in the Washington DC suburbs. Just wait 'till I get out to the farm in West-By-God-Virginia.

I see.

I thought you lived in a more rural part of Virginia.
