What I am looking for is proper extraction of darks and highlights, with a seamless blend of mids. It should not look HDR'sh, and should have proper black and white points without much clipping...
Everything else is up to you. i.e. Crop, Color balance, adding elements etc.
Amazing image you have. I really like the details and the way your frame the shot. this really make me want a K1.
below is my take on your awesome image, sorry I hope I didn't destroy it!

Amazing Photo ! Trying something a little different from the rest. I do so love my early 20th century landscape photos with that "painterly-look" tried to fit it into that realm. Enjoy

Hear one hear all... its time to announce the winner.

I enjoyed most of the renditions posted and it was hard to choose one. I liked the courage of those who had a great imagination like JHfwp and Pakinjapan who added celestial interest. Loved the frame that Glenn5995 put on the image (what tool did you use?). Astonnm had an intersting retro look on it. Liked LarsW's and todd's monochromatic renditions.

In the end I narrowed it down to those who had a more natural look and colors, and paid attention to not blowing out the white peaks during processing. The finalists were: Arizona Dave, RAART's 2100px, Astrosat2006, caliscouser,

The final two were Arizona Dave and Astrosat2006.... here it got very tough.... I went back and forth between the two....

In the end the winner is.... Drum Rolls...

***************** Arizona Dave ***************** !!!

Congratulations!

His version was both natural, nicely balanced color temperature, excellent exposure control, and what made me choose it was the sense pf palpable fog in the distant mountains.....

Now Dave it's on to you to host our next challenge.

Thank you everyone, I really enjoyed Hosting this.

Wish Arizona Dave could make a quick tutorial on at least a rough outline of how it was achieved I struggle to make landscapes look natural and popping at the same time.
