I have not seen a " swarm " of grubs like this before. Thanks for posting it.

One cocoon (probably a moth pupating inside); one grub (bottom side up, which it seemed to prefer); and a familiar Autumn caterpillar.

Thanks for the compliments. Cocoons, if you can locate one, are easier subjects than hover flies.

Black Swallowtail self-defence shenanigans:

It was looking like a great year for these butterflies, with more than I'd usually see flying in the spring. This is the only larva I found all year. It probably doesn't help that they'll feed on Queen Anne's Lace and there are several fields full of the stuff so they become the proverbial needle in the hay stack.

Huh, I would have thought Australia would have an abundance of "The 5 deadliest butterflies in the world" or something to that effect.

Caterpillars on American Chestnut. Since American Chestnuts are not often seen, I've included a couple of
small pictures of the tree & flowering sections.

The wind was blowing quite a bit, and it seemed that things were never still, so I did not get things as sharp
as I'd liked. There were loads of these little caterpillars on the flowers.
