It's a kind of weasel. Remember that Frank Zappa / Mothers of Invention album, "Weasels Ripped my Flesh"?

Ah, no actually. But I remember European pine martens featuring in Louis de Bernières' "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" - I hadn't heard of the genus until then. We don't have any native members of the Mustelidae family.

You're fortunate that non of the weasel family members were introduced into Australasia. Though they are wonderful to see (the Wolverine was especially memorable) I'm sure any one of them would have been quite disruptive!

Actually, beyond the cover I don't remember much about "Weasels Ripped my Flesh". As far as Frank Zappa is concerned I was more of a "Hot Rats" kind of guy. He did seem to have a thing about small furry animals!

I still sing "Status Back Baby" all the time, from The Mothers of Invention.

Not the best shot in the world but I feel fortunate even to have seen a Wolverine. It might take you a moment to find it!
