A horse, of course

Arjay Bee pointed out (and a quick check of the forums confirmed) that there's no thread dedicated to horses on the PF. So here's a thread and a big thank you to Arjay Bee from the horseaphiles? Equiphiles? Chevalaphiles? Fans of the noble steed for the suggestion. Since most of us don't live with wild horses, I'd like to open the thread to mustangs, brumbies, domestic horses, working horses, mules, burros (There are some images on the PF of a dressage mule that are fantastic!), pretty much all of our equine friends. Here are a few of my favorites to start this wagon train rolling.

Wild horse stitched panorama

Fighting stallions

Galloping mustang

Wild and free

Pony soldier

Wild burros

Windswept

Curiosity

Your turn, now. Head 'em and move 'em out.

Such a great idea for a thread, and those are wonderful photographs to get things going. You can count me and my Dartmoor ponies in for sure! Here are some older ones as my first contribution:

I forgot to mention ponies when I started this thread and they are certainly welcome! Those are some distinctive ponies. And I really like the lighting in the last image.

I'd turn around for Clydesdales too. I like the fencing framing the horses. I always think 'horse farm' when I see that type of fence.

"Help! I've fallen and I can't giddyup!"

(actually, just a dust bath to keep the biting insect off)

The rodeo is in town and that means horses. And mules. And burros.

Wild Horses of Corolla in the Outer Banks, unfortunately had to shoot from a moving or idling vehicle.

At the end of the wet season there is plenty of forage and the brumbies are looking in good condition. As the dry season progresses the forage dies back and the stock starts to move through town grazing and begging for handouts to try and get a feed. Some house holders water their lawns so the grass can be a source if uncut. This small mob greeted us in our front yard a couple of mornings ago (mid June) and were looking rough. The bolder ones scored a few apples from our fridge.

Loving this thread. It's a joy to see how others around the world are photographing the equines on their patches. Dartmoor ponies like film too, so here are some on Ektar 100:

And back to digital. . .

Working Horses. These may be the most pampered horses anywhere. It was pretty interesting watching them get ready for a parade, how much time and grooming goes into getting each horse ready.
