I have all my pics! But, as is the story of our lives, I've been hella busy. I predict I will be playing serious catch-up on Tuesday. See you then!

No pics for yesterday. I was busy running errands before my trip. Flying out tonight to go to Castelfranco, Italy for a business. I'll try and post while I'm gone, but no promises.

I asked this in another thread, but it doesn't seem to be getting much attention (niche thread)....

I'm looking for opinions & experience - this winter, I'm buying a serious, longer AF prime, so I'm curious: FA*200mm f2.8 + 1.4x TC vs FA* 300mm f4.....

I had the DA*200 for a month, "Singled" it, and sold it. Too much purple fringing. WAY too much. It was sharp though, and nicely compact, and produced lovely subject isolation.

The DA*300 is an all time keeper. Every time I use it I wonder why I don't use it more often.

Oops - just noted you specified the FA* variants. They are hard to find, the 200 is optically identical to the DA* and the 300 is smaller and f/4.5, but superb. The F*300/4.5 is also superb and has a tripod foot and lacks the awful paint of the FA* series.

Well, I am waiting on the wi-fi card, at least I can log into PF on my iPad now. I almost wish I could swap my k-5 for my daughters k-30 just to save a little weight and space on this trip.

the only reason I did not mention the DA variants is the SDM issues, which may or may not be an issue, since they could be converted to screw-drive...

I don't think SDM failure is at all common with either of these lenses. The 16-50 and 50-135 have been the main problem, especially the former.

The DA 200 and 300 aren't prone to fail and in addition, they are both convertible to screw drive if you desire.

I really liked the DA *200, but as Sandy said, it does purple fringe pretty badly. I eventually replaced it with the DFA *70-200, but I don't shoot with many long lenses.

My photo for today has been identified. Thanks to Miles, he says it's a Canna Lily. I googled that and sure enough what we have growing is the same thing.

LBA has struck again. Found an unusual m42 lens at the local camera shop: an Auto Rikenon EE 50mm f/1.4. Apparently it was made specifically for a Ricoh SLR with a unique metering system. It has a stop down-pin, but no manual/auto switch, so I (reluctantly) brought out the superglue to secure the pin.

Here's a quick test shot at f/8. This lens is not lacking in the "creative flare" department:
