Had to title this one "Quay Ring"

And one that's seen quite a few more winters...

A couple from the water front by town hall of Oslo and the Akershus Fortress close by.

Jetty on the Clarence River near McLean NSW. This point is probably 35-40 kilometres upstream from the river mouth at Yamba

Forster (pronounced Foster!!) NSW

"Historic" Pier at Coffs Harbour NSW - I say "Historic" because it has been rebuilt, but it is still called historic!!

Once there was a pier, or perhaps a bit more likely, a wooden dock.

These are magnificent Savoche.

BTW, "quay ring" is a world-class pun.

Fish-eye used to capture this pier/dock in Maine*. No room to step back to use even an extreme WA. This image was posted about three or four years back.

*Maybe I should have said that this area is subject to very strong offshore winds, hence the curved posts.

Does this tiny thing qualify as a breakwater? I think it's mainly there to stop people from running aground in the shallows.

Looks like a feeble, but partially effective precaution against storm-driven surge and waves. Such barriers work until a storm comes along that the builders never expected or believed could happen.

Feeble? Never heard that used as a noun before.

Not much chance of seeing a big surge or wave around here. The fjord is not wide or straight enough for a storm to pick up much speed, and too well sheltered by hills all around.
