Lets be kind and say that when the pier is crowded with fishermen he's less likely to tangle his line

My vocabulary is somewhat limited when it comes to maritime terminology (as well!), so not quite sure if this really qualifies as a pier... Close enough in functionality, I believe

Pier, jetty, dock, quay, groin, landing, tie-up, wharf - - no limitations.

I was about to PM Walter to save him from embarrassment but it turns out the British (groyne) and US (groin) spellings are different.

Yup. A number of spelling differences. Here in the USA we don't distinguish between body parts and shoreline stabilizing piles of stones.

By the look of the abrasion - not built recently.

One from a few years ago with my first ultra wide on APSC, the Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 on the K5.

A visit to Cabbage Tree Creek for a sunrise has repeatedly paid dividends yet I was miffed that the mirror reflection had been disturbed by the passing boat. And whilst I'm still disappointed I missed capturing the undisturbed creek water the ripples created by the bow wave were also worth capturing so all is good.

Another capture of the Woody Pt Pier, this one was with the K5 paired to the DA*300/4 and a crappy Kenko 2 x converter.

Sunrise was clouded out but patience prevailed as a bloke stopped to blind himself by gazing at the rising sun.

Here are a few more from the last couple of years of the very same pier as above

Near mid-summer and near midnight.

...and one not taken around sunset! A different angle as well :
