This double-deck floating construction is neither jetty not pier, but it fits here better than on other threads.

Might have to change the name of thread to "Jetties, Piers and Pontoons".

Or add "docks" whether floating or supported by piles. There are quite a few variations: 1) supported by piles rigidly above the water; 2) floating but anchored to shore by some means; 3) floating but held in place by piles and riding up and down on them with the tide.

Here in Australia these are both called Pontoons as they rise and fall with the river/sea level. Rigid would indeed be a dock. (Pedantic teachers the both of us)

A pontoon dock, or floating dock, looking back toward the pier to which it is anchored. Many of the estuaries along the Maine coast have a large tidal range, well shown when the tide is low.

The Rockland ME lighthouse at the end of the rocky structure called a breakwater. The breakwater is a little over 4,000 feet long (about 1.2km). Slightly different from a jetty, pier or dock, but in the spirit of this thread.
