Post- Processing Challenge #249: Kinkaku-ji, Kyoto

This was a shot from the honeymoon with Mrs imaspy. The dream in Kyoto is always to have great light, but alas, we had overcast conditions.

So what can you do to make this flat image interesting? You've got a reasonable scene to work with, I reckon we'll see a lot of variation with this one. Note: points given for technical improvements as much as creative!

let's close this one Tuesday the 20th at 3pm AEDST.

(with sincere apologies for the delay, i'm a total noob with the challenges and didn't realise they generally move along at a brisk pace!)

It's best to put a date/time for the end of this challenge in your first post so people know when to get their version posted. Just select Edit Message' to include it above, normally the challenges run for a week (your local time) give or take a day or two.

A very nice scene to work with. Not as straightforward as I first thought...

I tried a few variations but settled on this aged look. It seemed appropriate for the subject matter. Minor straightening, basic exposure / contrast adjustments and a custom crop all in Lightroom, followed by a custom preset I've created in Silver Efex Pro and a few additional tweaks.

Not my best work, but I quite like the outcome

Yes sir... once the challenge has closed, of course. Good idea to set a reminder in your calendar

I've gone for an upbeat almost Kodachrome-like feel with some masking...

It's good to have new people hosting the challenge. You learn by doing. Next time is easier.

I went for tight crop:
