Nice image! I love how the frozen lake works as "negative space that isn't". Will I be keeping all of that in my attempt, though? Hmmm....

FYI - I am not presuming to be considered to be the next host, but for your consideration while making your selections, I will be travelling when this challenge is scheduled to close and would not be able to start the next until May 1st or 2nd.

I feel terrible for throwing away so much of the image, but I went with my gut instinct here...

The parts of the image that really spoke to me were the church / clock tower, the ferry and those beautiful lateral shadows from the apartment blocks on that frozen lake.

Basic processing in Lightroom, followed by Silver Efex Pro for B&W processing with grain, negative vignetting and the border...

Beautiful!! Gonna be awhile before that boat is going anywhere... Does that harbor always freeze up like that? Tried to subtly play up the afternoon sun. Thinking this would make an excellent postcard - perfect spot at the bottom for some copy

Very nice edit!

Out of interest, what did you use to get the thin black outer border? I must have this facility in part of my PP workflow, but I've never found it Very useful for sites with white or greay backgrounds...

Not done one of these before but I thought I would give this a go, a great image to work with. I wanted to emphasise the feeling of negative space from the ice below by brightening up the sky to mirror it above.

Thanks Didn't want to stray too far on the edit. It's just such an amazing photo! (Seriously... I really thought about dropping in an IKEA flag on the skyline.... Running joke in our family... we're "mostly swedish" and both of my daughters work there. LOL )

Either color background for that border... yup. exactly what I was thinking on this one. (Great minds/same photoshop gutter) I took the easy way out - Using Nik - ColorFX Pro - Image borders. Did a plain white first, then overlaid another in the plain black. I love the way you can easily adjust size in their UI.

That's the trick. Good job... I wouldn't even have thought to do that

Thanks!

Just as aside, did any of you catch this one today ?? Apparently we're an inspiration now..... GO GO GODZILLA! (Gojira?!?)

Part 3: How Godzilla stomped on my Lightroom habit - Columns | PentaxForums.com

"The Godzilla project was inspired by some audacious entrants in previous post-processing competitions who managed to incorporate that fearsome post-nuclear Japanese icon within an otherwise mundane landscape resulting in gobsmacking output."

I think we all need to get our stories straight and not admit to anything Hmmm... where is Godzilla now ? ? ?

What I like about this challenge is learning other peoples methods and ideas. I never new about borders in Nik Color Effects, and maybe never use it, but now I know!
Here's my 2 for this week.
