Single In - June 2018

Welcome everyone to the Single In June 2018 Challenge!

Theme days:

Thursday, 7th June: CURVE

Thursday, 14th June: BACKLIT

Thursday, 21st June: B/SELFIES

Thursday, 28th June: EYES

Aim of the Game:To use the same lens each day for a month, posting one picture captured each day with that lens. The picture must be captured with a Pentax lens coupled to a camera body of your choice (including Pentax/Ricoh), a non-Pentax lens provided it is coupled only to a Pentax or Ricoh body, or a Pentax-Ricoh point&shoot camera. (Taking other pictures with other cameras/lenses is fine, but these wonít be eligible for this Challenge).

Commenting: Posting your pictures allows other participants to comment on them. Conversely, itís hoped that you will comment on those of other members. Please donít be shy if you donít have much photographic experience or are a Forum newbie - your personal reactions to photographs are as valid as anyone elseís. Itís a very friendly group and with regular commenting, youíll soon be enjoying the camaraderie.

The rewards: Itís great fun. Youíll learn heaps about how your chosen lens can perform and youíll see what other members achieve with their selected lenses - sometimes the same one youíve chosen. In the comment banter youíll pick up many tips on photographic technique generally, including post processing. As the month progresses it often becomes quite demanding (itís a challenge, remember) but youíll always be encouraged by other participants. Worried about LBA? - this game doesnít help you fight it!

How to participate:

1. First you need to join the Group to be able to post pictures; you only have to do this once. The groupís name is ďMonthly Photo ChallengesĒ. Youíll find a clickable link on that forum page to join.

2. Youíll need to have your pictures stored in an on-line album. This could be the Pentax Forum, or others such as Flickr, Picassa etc. You actually post a link to the picture in your album into the daily picture thread.

** If you are linking to a Pentax Forum album, youíll find advice on how to post elsewhere in the Forum and in the FAQs below. One of the Challengeís stalwarts, patjp, has also prepared a short video on how to do this - itís on YouTube (Singlein.m4v)

** If you are posting a link to Flickr, just click on the sharing icon below your selected picture and a window will open displaying the BB code. Copy it and paste into the Single in (month) Challenge thread in the Pentax Forum.

Each day, youíll see a new thread of pictures grow and by clicking on each you should be redirected to the photographerís parent album where you will be able to add a comment and read those of others. When you post each dayís picture to the Pentax Forum, please specify the camera/lens combination underneath your picture eg K5 & DA15 Ltd - this makes it easy for others to note what combo youíre using.

The thread youíre painstakingly reading now is the Discussion Thread for Game > Single in (month).

This is separate to the picture posting thread referred to above and youíll probably want to subscribe to the Discussion one to keep up with activities and develop a rapport with Challenge members. Itís the place where you can ask questions, offer advice, share concerns, suggest improvements, and often just participate in general banter related to this monthís challenge.

So there it is. It is easier than it might seem at first. If you miss a day, donít worry. If you have any problems, please ask. Weíre a very friendly, forgiving, international bunch. Come and try!

FAQs: Finally, Zorglub has kindly posted a FAQ collection here Ö. The FAQ - Monthly Photo Challenges - PentaxForums.com

Perhaps. Probably getting my manual camera skills back in shape with something like a 28mm, 40mm, or 50mm.

I'm in.

I have recently built up a Lee 150 filter system (polariser, two graduated ND's and Big and Little Stoppers) and I need some inspiration to become familiar with it before I go to Antarctica at the end of the year.

The most versatile lens to give the Lees a thorough "Single In" workout would be the DFA15-30.

I also have an 82mm adaptor (for the DFA24-70), and step up rings to fit it to anything with a filter diameter of 62, 67 and 77mm, so I'll probably use the system on other lenses in the "Daily In" challenge.

I'm in with this monstrosity - a Schneider-Kreuznach Componon 105/5.6 enlarger lens, three extension tubes, and an Albinar 2x macro converter. I put it together in late March and have been dying to try it.

I call it "Frankie."

Hoping for some really nice macro shots, since both the enlarger lens and the macro converter should generate a pretty flat-field image. We'll see,

I'm tempted to join in this month. Been back to work on the ships for the last month and I brought with me my 31 and my most recent acquisition, a 50-135. This would be what I'd use for June

What a rig! It inspired me to try May's Schneider on my K-mount extension tubes connected by my new 645 to K adaptor, but two third party mounts wouldn't play nicely together. Such Is life.

I quiver with antici........pation to see what Frankie can do.

LOL!

Anyway, besides all the quoting i think it's about time I returned. My last endeavour was Daily in February ..... but that confused me too much

Daily in might be more rigorous but i think it focus' me better

I've had a right old LBA session since February but I think I'm finally in a place that I'm comfortable with - a good mixture of old and modern lenses.

I'm waiting on a FAJ 18-35mm which is supposed to arrive 30-31 May so I may jump in at the deep end with that. If courage (and the post) fails me then I'll be trotting out the FA 24-90mm as that is my replacement for the trusty 20-40 Limited as a walkround lens.

Well, the new lens arrived and 18mm is wiiiiiiiiiide on the K-1.

So I'll be in for June - let's hope I can find enough material. It will be handy being able to zoom all the way in to 35mm though.

that would have been considered a 'kit' lens from the FA-era?

Yes, I believe it was seen as a budget lens as it had no aperture ring and was very lightweight.(200g with hood).
Having said that, my copy appears to be virtually untouched; no wear and tear, scratches or dents are evident. The build quality seems good, smooth but short manual focus throw and no wobbles in evidence.
It was also given the SMC Ghostless coating so I'm hoping it will be quite flare resistant too. :-)

Okay somebody’s having a laugh at my expense here. :-)
My snapshot (fair enough I turned it into B&W, cropped and vignette - to hide my wife’s legs!) with phone on dining table got explored :-o
Think I’ll quit while I’m ahead!
