So why the lighthouse??
It was originally built to be an icon to set the Providence Center apart from other developments in Utah. Also, according to Thomas A. Pugh, a managing partner of the Providence Center and CEO of Quantum Construction, it was built in preparation for the big earthquake when California drops off into the ocean, at which time the lighthouse in Cedar City, Utah will be the only lighthouse standing on the “new” Pacific Coast of the United States.

Believe it or don't :-) you can google more about it. But know that the San Andreas fault is a strike-slip type where the opposing sides move sideways to each other, not pulling apart.

Great idea for a thread and some great international coverage!

Here are a couple from Michigan. These are crossposted somewhere. The first one is St. Joseph North Pier Light and the second is Little Sable Point Light.

We have made jokes about the Gateway Arch in St. Louis being on the new Atlantic Ocean when the New Madrid fault goes off (fault zone in southeastern MO and surrounding areas). But that was all in good humor. I hope Pugh wasn't too serious

I agree with Des. It really is a great idea for a thread, Rod. I've been trying to think of a photo project for this summer to make a change from my usual Dartmoor stuff, and you've reminded me that there are lots of really beautiful lighthouses around the coasts of Devon and Cornwall that I can easily get to on a day out.

I hope this one is allowed, although it's a light beacon rather than a proper lighthouse. Banjo Pier in Looe, Cornwall.
