Blackwell Island Light

This is a smallish lighthouse in Roosevelt Island (Between Manhattan and Queens)

"Built in 1872 and known then as the Blackwell Island Lighthouse, the fifty-foot-tall stone lighthouse at the northern tip of Roosevelt Island was built, if the legends can be believed, by the deranged occupants of a nearby insane asylum. But what’s not in doubt is that it was built by the city as a navigation aid for boats avoiding the rocks in the so-called “Hell Gate” waters." Roosevelt Island Lighthouse ? Foreland head lighthouse in Fife:

I always think it looks like an overgrown searchlight building, but the OS map says lighhouse.

Nearby there's a Lighthouse Café with wall-to-wall lighthouse photos (and decent food).

The Cape Byron tower almost looks like a mosque minaret or a Russian Orthodox onion tower... Very cool...
