Camping photos

A great past-time for many folks. Whether it is back country, winter, car camping, fun at the beach, there are plenty of pictures to fit this category.

I will start this off with one of the great things to smell first thing in the morning....coffee!!!

Bacon, sausage, potatoes, eggs, and an Anaheim pepper breakfast.

Salsa verde on the eggs for a finishing touch.

Got to add a photo of a 1988 slide. My wife and I were camping with our best friends (the couple in the center) Jim and Karen at Lost Maples in Texas. Unfortunately, only the memories remain - we lost Karen 2 years ago and Jim earlier this year.

Taken in the late 1980's, so I know this slide was shot with my Super Program Plus.
Canoe float trip camping on a clear Missouri stream, son about emerge from the tent.
Copied with my K-10, I think.

In 1982 my wife and I vacationed in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Unfortunately, we didn't make reservations ahead; our time there overlapped the annual Sturgis motorcycle event, so we couldn't find a regular campsite, but the Deadwood KOA was able to find us a spot on a terraced area above the canyon floor. Fortunately, we had a pup tent and a small car, which did fit in the site. The photo below shows the totality of our campsite, with the access road going through the middle of it {support ropes for the tent were anchored down the canyon side}

Haven't been camping in a while. This was near Hart's Pass, on the way to Slate Peak, the highest place (8,000ft/2,438m) that you can drive to in Washington State.

Zoe took over the table, Mrs. Racer whipped up something delicious in the camper, and later we had a fire but I didn't try any pictures.

Shot on film, probably Kodak Gold 100. Ricoh XR2s, Pentax M 40-80 zoom.

Stopped at the ranger station at Hart's Pass on the way down.

Apparently it isn't open much. It was shuttered and locked up tight.

This was our last time to camp at this spot in the White Mountains of Arizona. The year was 2010. The following year, 2011, the largest wildfire in Arizona History, the 538,049 acre Wallow Fire would go through the area.

Ironically the trees at the campsite survived, but everything around was burned.

Camping on the North Rim of Grand Canyon.

Always a good idea to have a chain saw with you.

Point Sublime.

My buddy Jim and I used to go to the races at Sebring (FL) every year and camp in the "big field" at the track. Here we are the first year we went - 2004. Pretty crappy photo quality - taken with a Toshiba P&S (my first digital camera).
