Volunteer Sunflower in the compost pile. Never been watered.

I love volunteer plants.... we have an ex-compost pile that has three peach trees growing out of it...

Only other thing growing in our compost pile right now are pumpkins. But they're doing well.

Straw flowers. Apparently we're growing ants in our garden as well.

My first year to grow "Tiger Eye" beans. I replanted some of these a week ago; hope they have time to make.

The orange Asiatic lily was from a month ago; all done now.

All from Pentax K-3 and DA 35mm f/2.4 (the cheap one).

Not actually IN the garden, but if we are showing our Household Gods, I pass these two on the garden path.

I'm not sure my perimeter defenses will keep out rabbits, but, so far, I believe it is keeping out the racoons and woodchucks (aka groundhogs), which just love my corn and cantaloupes.

our garden is unfenced but out in the open - so few vermin, but occasionally deer will wander through...

My garden is completely enclosed. I live on the outskirts of Lancaster, an old city (orig. Roman) with a castle in nw England. It needs to be enclosed for all the doggies in the family. Re. Volunteer plants, I have a volunteer holly tree that planted itself in the shadow of a huge fern. The fern hasnt grown this year so the holly is thriving. It must be five years old and has finally made it to 12inches tall, bless its little cotton socks!

Edit: the mummy gnome has reappeared. He is a Manchester City gnome and is currently closing on the one from the red side of Manchester. In the background you can see the holly as mentioned above, bless!
