Here's the reason why Scotland adopted this particular flower..."Legend has it that at some point during the invasion the Norsemen tried to surprise the sleeping Scottish Clansmen. In order to move more stealthily under the cover of darkness the Norsemen removed their footwear. But as they crept barefoot they came across an area of ground covered in thistles and one of Haakon’s men unfortunately stood on one and shrieked out in pain, thus alerting the Clansmen to the advancing Norsemen."

Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh with the 18-135.

I see too many of these in my garden, but I try to cut them down before they blossom.

There are Scots all over the World and we took our Thistle with us, they will be hiding there somewhere.

Just checking in to keep track of this thread. We are so dry I doubt there are any growing right now - but maybe it will rain again one day.
