This is an old gatehouse. It was once the gate to aldcliffe hall which was built from a local sandstone that was famous for dissolving. Good thing too as the hall was bloody 'orrrible!

I like the waterfront one too although All the images in this thread are excellent you can't beat a derelict building tremendous thread suggestion, I am just surprised it hasn't gone into orbit

We'll see - my "beaches" thread took a while to get going but it's chugging along quite nicely now.
Old buildings have a lot of associations - people who have come and gone, the passage of time, lack of permanence - I'm hoping a few more will come on board after the raffle is over and people don't have to spend as much time just keeping up with the number of images in other threads.

This was the office building for the Drewry's brewery in town. I'd always been fascinated by this structure - even wondered if a children's book could be written about it - but never got around to photographing it ..... until the week before the city forced the current owner of these now-dilapidated structures to tear them down.
