Route 66 was in an America that was optimistic about the future. As they say, the future isn't what it used to be. This old-values innocence now seems lost to us. I find these dystopian pictures very sad reminders of that. Thanks for posting them.

@CharLac's second picture in the sequence on previous page : I have never seen (in UK) traffic lights with horizontal heads. They would have been no good for my father; he was red-green colour blind and relied on seeing the vertical position of the light.

A buddy of mine is colour blind as well in the same way and he says he has to be extremely vigilant when the traffic lights are configured this way. In Ontario they are vertical but across the border in Quebec they are horizontal. Luckily the Quebec lights have two reds and they are larger than the green and the yellow.

I think that SpecialK wins the cornflakes in this thread. However, this is about "Buildings at their Best" and I can't believe that Ben's Garage ever had a "best"
