58mm Lens

I just borrowed (now with the intention to keep) a nice Zenit helios 58/2 (44M-4). It has sticky blades, so very manual to use (I have to actually remove the lens and move the lever to position the f stop)... still worth it! It was borrowed as my friend wanted me to check it out to see if it was fixable - however, I cannot get into the blades, as it seems the element groups are glued to the base!

Enough of that... hope there is some interest in a 58mm group (I searched the forum but did not see one)... anyways, to the photos!

Another 58mm is the Voigtlander Nokton 58,, f1.4. I love mine and I wrote short story:

FA31mm f1.8 vs VL Nokton 58mm f1.4 - PentaxForums.com

An outstanding lens IMHO and a true 58mm .

Dittoes on the Nokton 58mm for K-mount! Mine is always at-hand for film & digital. Excellent build & optics! Reminds me of older Topcons.

Thanks for the heads up - should've looked for it by name rather than focal range.

Oh well - there might be other 58mm out there after all:

Yep...58mm in K-mount or M42 is pretty rare. I know of only four right off the top of my head: Helios 44 variants, CZJ Biotar, Voigtlander SL-II, and the limited edition (Cosina) Topcor in M42.

Look on the bright side, guys. It'll be an exclusive club.
Besides, there are 58s for other mounts, too. And this thread has prompted me to use my Minolta 58mm again.

I use this lens on my Olympus m4/3 and Canon DSLR cameras. As expected, it gets plenty sharp when stopped down. But I prefer the dreamy look at f/1.4:

Cheers - that is a beautiful result at 1.4! That second shot, you can't mimic that on PS pp...

Cool looking glass, and nicely coated it seems!

Thanks! I haven't used my Minolta very much yet, but it's solidly built and I like the results.

My week with a 58mm is over...

I spent about one week with a copy of this gem... It changed my mind set of the 58mm focal lenght; I'm honestly really enjoying a 58mm on Cropped Sensor! Unfortunately it was a loaner and will go back to its owner... We'll meet again!

Here are some (more) shots:

Nice captures. I like the big city flavor.

Having lived in smaller communities my whole life, NYC would be as alien to me as Mars!
Thanks for the visit. And now hurry up and go buy your own Helios 44!

Thank you - One of the good thing about the big city life that you get interesting shot at every corner. And yes, I'm looking into getting myself a Helios!

Yep, basically when I opened the thread I was unaware of the Helios thread... not many 58mm lenses to go around for their own thread/club, but hey. If the Admins want to close it, I'm OK with it, I'd understand. (I did X-post on the Helios thread )
