Ah...Oleander...you know, I'm sure, that it's extremely toxic. It used to be a very common landscape plant here, even planted in public spaces like road medians. But it has fallen far out of favor because of its toxicity. Out-of-towners would stop to admire the flowers and the extreme fragrance, cut or pluck some stems, and if they managed to ingest any trace of the sap, get very ill (or worse). I remember stories about people being hospitalized after eating a hot dog cooked on a stick of oleander. Never mind the oleander caterpillars, nasty stinging critters that infested the plants. If it's in your yard, be careful!
