Stumbled across this thread. Love it as I spend a heap of time looking at my feet.

The first was from around Swan Hill, and the rest from around Bendigo.

I found it interesting that within a small area there were three almost identical flowers on three totally different plants. (photos 2&3) I took a picture of the third plant which was not up to much as I was rushing back to work.

A blast out of the past, Paul! Oleander used to be a very common landscape plant here, years and years ago. I remember it from childhood. State DOT even planted it in roadway medians, but had to put up signs warning the turistas about its toxicity. Pretty, very fragrant flowers, but very, very poisonous sap. It isn't common now but there are still plantings in older neighborhoods.

Yes, same here in Calif on the medians. It's still pretty common in folks' gardens, and we have a couple large ones in the backyard. Don't worry, I can find something else to munch on if I get hungry.

I trust you! Just don't use the straight, woody stems to skewer hot dogs (or whatever) over the barbecue! (no kidding, ignorant folks have become violently ill -- or worse! after doing that). Enjoy the fragrance (very sweet, as I recall), beware the sap!

Do you get the awful oleander caterpillars on the plant? I remember seeing oleanders just covered with the orange/black monsters, which eventually become "polka-dot wasp moths".
