Well, it is time to wrap this up. I want to thank each who contributed.
Coal Mine Canyon is in the Navajo and Hopi Nations of Arizona. The rim is part of the Navajo Nation and requires a permit to visit. The interior is in the Hopi Nation and requires a guide for access. The name comes from coal mines which used to operate there. The coal is the dark layer at the upper portion of the canyon. Underneath is the beautiful colors which attract visitors and photographers.
I photographed this image to keep from blowing out the highlights from the light of the setting sun, which of course left the canyon dark in the shadows. Part of the challenge was getting the balance back.
Very good entries from everyone, which makes choosing very difficult. Ultimately, I am torn between D1N0 and todd to host the next challenge. You each received 3 likes, so that doesn't help me any.
Not easy, but I must choose and I choose...............................................todd. Congratulations! Well done everyone!
Here is what I did with the image:
