Forwarding Address

Since PF has members from all over the world, it's not uncommon to see pictures from two different locations but the same name. For example, Norfolk in England versus Norfolk, the island between New Zealand and Australia versus Norfolk in the United States. I though a thread with photos from places with similar names but geographically separate locations would be interesting.

So pick a location and start adding pictures of places with the same name, but in different locations. Similar spelling are close enough, so post a picture of your pl;ace that is named for a place elsewhere.

I'll start with a photo of Baghdad, Iraq. [IMG][/IMG]

There is a village called Baghdad northwest of Sphinx International Airport in Egypt. I'm unsure what the ground photo would look like but google earth suggests it is flat and full of wheat.

Aren't pictures shown in PF supposed to be pictures you've taken?

I know of a town in Texas called Paris, and town in Arkansas called Paris but I have no photos of either.

A small town in Queensland Australia called Texas. I have not been to the other one yet. They say it is a bit bigger.

Well, South Africa will have few to contribute, I doubt very much if you will find places like Soweto, Ixopo, Umtata or Broedersttrooom (lit Brother stream). Soweto is an Acronym for South Western Townships, Ixopo is Zulu, a small town, Umtata is Xhosa in the Eastern Cape, and Broederstroom is Dutch/Afrikaans. But Texas come to visit here from time to time

Just a bit, but you have the right idea, HTere's a Bagdad in Australia, as well, so I'm told.

Texans are known to roam a bit, and they'll be the first to tell you where they are from. The way I hear it, the distance to drive across Texas is the same distance as Houston to Capetown.

And that is spelt Bagdad. Is being particular about spelling important here?

Close spelling is fine enough, I'd just like to encourage Pentaxians to post pictures of similarly named places from all over the world. I know that Americans, and folks in the countries of the UK share many place names stemming from English homelands.

Within Texas alone, I can find dozens of place names from Europe and elsewhere. Virginia and many of the states along the eastern seabord in the US do as well.offers the same.

I have been to Mecca, California, but though I've been to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, I've never been to Mecca, nor Medina, maybe some Pentaxian has and will post a picture.

Berlin. A ghost town in Nevada. Established in 1897 largely abandoned by 1911.

Berlin, Germany, 1989, on a cold day, seems almost as deserted. Shot with a K-1000 and either a 28mm or a 50mm lens.
