I was questioned quite extensively when I said I don't use the green button with manual lenses, the person doing the questioning said it couldn't be done, another came in and said it could be done if, one knows what they're doing. And the person questioning me was a long time member here, didn't believe it worked. I said try it, it works for me, enough said. I think he still went off thinking I didn't know what I was talking about. Well, it's been a few years since that discussion and it still works for me and I still don't use the green button or the histogram, but my shots are not overexposed or underexposed, doing it my way.

I do use green button, but only to get into the right area to start shooting. I rely mostly on histogram. I always take test shots and try to adjust histogram so that there is no total black or white. If there is not enough dynamic range, I usually avoid white. I keep following histogram as I shoot and make adjustment and reshoot when needed. I do final exposure in PP.

I have found this fast and easy way to shoot with manual lenses.
This is what I do as well.

What's a green button for? That's the lazy mans way.
I admit to laziness. But I don't come from a film background. I shoot in manual, set the aperture I want and let the camera sort out the shutter speed. It works well for me.

I'm not lazy for using the green-button method - it's the best way to use the technology in hand when you need it...

I'm going to bale out for April - have some other things going on but I'm fairly sure that I will be back in for May - or possibly the Daily In version.

I'll be keeping a beady eye on things though :-)

I tried it once. It would not give me the shutter speed I needed for shooting a bird.
That's when I decided the green button method was not for me, and switched to using my method instead.

not fully committed to a lens yet. K-1 is wearing the sigma mini-wide ii (28/2.8) in anticipation, but i'm still very attracted to the rokinon 14/2.8... I'll decide at the last minute...

Sunny 16 works a treat. When I was doing it a lot I got pretty quick at figuring it out - and even just feeling it, rather than figuring.

And with my K-30’s sodded exposure, I should probably go with manual exposure a lot more.

Yay! Since I actually completed a SIC? ... May 2018. But I think I technically filled out December 2018 with shots, I just never got around to editing/posting them. They're still sitting in my LR library. I have still been trying to take daily photos because I love making "yearbooks" on Shutterfly, but it's been a lot with my phone lately. Lazy, I know...

This. There aren't any bonus points given for not using a feature in your camera. Use your gear to make a nice picture. Don't let anyone make you feel ashamed for pressing (or not pressing) one of the buttons.

@iheiramo has the right idea about it, I think.

I never meant to imply that what I do others should also do. I shoot in my own way, doesn't mean others should follow behind and do it my way. If the green button works for them, so be it, it just never worked for me the way it does for others.

And welcome back!

but your comment that using the green button is "the lazy mans way" is just that - it may not work for and if you have the experience to run without using it, then that's you...

some of us do not have the benefit of a film background, so your way may seem archaic and needlessly complicated, when a simple press of a button does the trick...

I was joking, and I should have said so. Sorry, I did not mean to imply anything of the sort. I apologize for what you all took to be set in stone for what I said. One day I'll learn to say JK, or Joking, when making that comment. OK?

I knew you were joking... And being the lazy man wasn't offended at all, just impressed that you have the skills to work without the green button. I've been using the M 35-70 today and have several white or black shots to show for it when I forgot to press my magic green button.

I also like focus confirmation, catch in focus and focus peaking...

The technology works. There is a learning curve required to get the most out of it.
