And one significantly more silly Totally unrealistic with that night sky over London, of course, but the main thing was to experiment with different kinds of layers to turn day into night. A rather crude job, but it was fun having a go at it. It would take a lot more adjustment of light and shadow to make it look more realistic (ignoring the thing with the starry sky!).

Thanks, I was testing out some tips from this tutorial. This guy is quite good at getting to the point without lots of empty chatter.

Here's where I started:

I like the contrast between the flowing cloud forms and the hard geometry of the bridge. The black specks are swallows flying around the bridge, not sensor dirt!

Here's where I went.

First stop: black and white.

Blacker and white:

Back to colour, saturation boosted:

Pixel stomping! I love it!

Nice series. Interesting how many versions of an image can emerge from playing like this. Each one is different, each one is interesting. Fun stuff!

Thanks for the comment Bruce. I enjoy exploring the possibilities available in the digital darkroom. With this particular image, I was on a roll, using mostly keyboard shortcuts, banging away at the keyboard fervently, snatching the mouse for tasks it is useful for, saving a result, then make an adjustment or two, see something else, save it, and on and on . . . .

. . . . . . it was exhilarating, to be sure.

I had been trying for a certain look, like a pencil or technical pen drawing. Didn't quite get there with any of the results, but like you say, each is unique, and interesting.

The original image.
