Starting point for above image:



Created a second layer, which I inverted, under the first one. Erased the box interior and screwed around with brightness, saturation, etc. of underlying negative layer showing through. A bit of erasing at less than 100% opacity to suggest glow coming through parts of the sides of the box, and a lens flare added for good measure.

This started out as a colour image with badly blown highlights, but I still liked how the leaf structure transmitted the light. I decided to play with it in black and white, cropping it a bit and screwing around with the contrast, much like I used to do in my darkroom days with Kodalith film:
